What is sustainable construction?
The construction industry significantly impacts the environment, accounting for 23% of air pollution, 40% of drinking water contamination, and 50% of landfill waste. Key issues include habitat loss, ecosystem disruption, air and noise pollution, water pollution, and waste generation.Sustainable construction means building with renewable and recyclable resources and materials. During construction projects, care must be taken to reduce waste and energy consumption where possible and protect the natural environment around the site. Sustainability in construction seeks to radically reduce both embodied and operational emissions. ‘Embodied emissions’ refers to the CO2 that is produced from the materials and the process of construction, and ‘operational emissions’ are the carbon emissions released as a result of the day-to-day life of the building as it fulfils its function, whether as a home, office, commercial or industrial space.

Our team of commercial and residential Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) registered Assessors brings years of experience in energy auditing and surveying. With degree qualifications in Civil Engineering and MBA, along with training in Ireland to achieve Passive House standards, we are well-equipped to deliver outstanding results.
As part of the panel of SEAI Technical Advisers, we offer independent technical advice to building owners. With changing building regulations and the imminent Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) legislation, all new builds in Ireland will soon need to meet standards akin to Passive House design. This results in very low-energy buildings with high standards of materials and energy efficiency, leading to significantly lower energy bills and minimal heating fuel consumption.
